About NZ Drive

We are not just here to help you pass.

We are here to help you drive for life.

Our Vision

New Zealand's most trusted benchmark in driver education.

Raising standards and improving road safety nationwide. We are building something bigger than a driving school. Every lesson we deliver, every corporate programme we run, and every partnership we form is a step toward a New Zealand where driver education is held to a genuinely higher standard.

Our Mission

Practical, outcome-driven driver education through trusted instructors and scalable systems.

We believe learning to drive is more than ticking boxes or passing tests. It is about developing the awareness, confidence, and instincts that stay with you for life. Every programme we build is designed around that principle.

Our five-stage programme is built on the Learning System for Driving Instructors, NZTA's own national manual for driver educators, and every student progresses only once an instructor confirms genuine, consistent competence, not after a fixed number of lessons. That's not a new direction for us, it's already how NZ Drive operates, and it lines up closely with the evidence-based, accountable standard NZTA is now setting for approved course providers. Our existing Advanced Driving Assessment already scores students against that same formal framework.

Our Story

From Selwyn's best to Canterbury's most trusted.

NZ Drive began as Selwyn Driving School, the highest-rated driving school in the Selwyn district. When Brad acquired the business, the reputation was already there. What changed was the scope.

As government contracts followed, council partnerships developed, and the network grew to five locations across Canterbury, it became clear the name needed to match the ambition. NZ Drive reflects not just where we operate today, but where we are heading.

What started as a commitment to the Selwyn community has grown into weekly work with Oranga Tamariki, a partnership with the Waimakariri District Council Mayoral Task Force for Jobs, road safety events alongside New Zealand Police, and a growing corporate consultancy. The standard we hold ourselves to has not changed. The scale has.

The Team

Three instructors. Three different strengths.

When parents trust us with their teenager, they are trusting Brad, Chris and Sarah. Here is who they are.

Brad
Founder and Senior Instructor
Brad has been in driver training for over 20 years, starting at 21 in the heavy vehicle industry before dedicating himself to teaching New Zealand's next generation of drivers. When Covid brought his South Island coach touring business to a close, Brad turned his expertise toward something he cared about deeply. He built NZ Drive on the belief that honest, structured instruction matters more than just getting someone through a test.
Chris
Driving Instructor
Chris came to driver training from a background in IT and customer service, and that combination shows in his lessons. He has a natural ability to read people, adapt his communication style, and make even the most nervous learner feel comfortable behind the wheel. Students regularly rebook with Chris specifically, which says everything.
Sarah
Driving Instructor
Sarah is NZ Drive's newest instructor and already one of its most valued. With a background in jetboat driving and youth services, she brings genuine skill, real energy, and a passion for road safety that goes well beyond the job description. Having worked with young people throughout her career, she has a particular gift for building confidence in learners who need it most.
